- What: 22-23 Thespy Event
- Date: January 21, 2023
- Where: Nathan Hale High School, Seattle
- Time: 7:45 – 5:00pm. Students need to be at Juanita and on the bus at 7:45AM. The bus will be waiting by 7:30am, and as soon as they check in they will board the bus. We can’t leave late. We will be returning around 5:00pm. I will have students contact parents when we leave Nathan Hale, so that you are at Juanita for pick up.
- Transportation: LWSD School bus
- What clothing to wear: Students understand that they need comfortable black shoes, ALL BLACK clothing, no jeans (boys in slacks and dress shirts, girls in slacks, skirts or simple dresses; no bare legs – leggings are fine under skirts or dresses), zips or sweaters (our new Drama Hoodies!) that can be easily removed (its cold on Saturday in the school), hair pulled back, neutral makeup, simple jewelry (only as needed, like studs in the ears), no writing or logos on clothing to distract the adjudicators. Observers do not have a clothing requirement.
- Lunch: Sack lunch with snacks and water bottles that can be refilled. Keep it healthy but more is better than not enough!
- Materials to bring: notebook, pen, script materials. Students need to limit the amount of ‘stuff’ they haul around and keep track of and bring only what is necessary for the day. A shoulder bag or small backpack is a good way to keep track of things. Fully charged phone.
- Music and player: Students who are singing need to have their own music system: students use their phones and small but good speakers to connect to. We are working as a group to share and find speakers for everyone to use, but since there isn’t a guarantee they will be in the same room we need lots of sound systems.
- Participation Fees and Bus Fee: Each student has an entrance fee of $40 for non-Thespians, $30 for Thespians, $10 for observers. Drama is a member of the WIAA, so that pays for the bus. Juanita Drama is paying all other entrance fees as part of our commitment to include all students without fees.
- Phones: Students will have their phones off for most of the day because of performances. There is not a direct line into the school, so it will not be possible to contact students during the performances and presentations. I will remind students to tell you when they have arrived, and when they are leaving Nathan Hale at the end of the day. Students will have a lunch break if you would like them to check in.
