Hello Drama!
Auditions for our 2nd show are Monday and Tuesday! The lovely thing about Juanita Drama Auditions is that we all know each other, support each other, and look forward to learning more about each other through the audition process. What is more fun than cheering your friends on the stage as they perform? It is basically a variety show performance!
I like the idea in the article posted on this week's ML that you should focus on winning the room, not the part. What does that mean for you? It means that you showed up, you gave it your best, you felt confident and had fun!
Have you ever wondered why we don't sign up for what we will be performing at auditions, and why we use the hot seats? The moment belongs to you, and you get to make choices right up until the time you arrive at the audition and go up on stage. Choosing between two songs on Sunday night and it becomes clear which one you want to sing? YOU get to make that choice. Eager to get up on stage and perform? YOU get to decide when to audition AND you get to be in a secure space in the hot seats knowing exactly when it is your turn to go up on stage. This is all very important because the audition belongs to you, is for you, and is all about you! Because we have created a safe, non-competitive space, everyone in the room will be happy for you. Isn't that amazing? You know it is true, because you eagerly anticipate and are happy for everyone else who gets on stage. You want them to do well and are thrilled with ALL performances. Take what you are feeling for others up to the stage with you because we are all doing the same for YOU!
Nervous? Of course you are! ALL performers experience what we generally call nerves, That is your body's physiology kicking in, recognizing something important is happening, and getting you ready to be your very best. Think of it like the difference between an opening night and following performances. On opening night, there is a nervous anticipation that fuels the performance. Gives it an edge. Subsequent performances may be stronger, show growth and understanding, but there is nothing quite like what nerves can do to make a performance memorable. USE that energy and recognize that it is normal and even appreciated by veteran performers!
JUANITA DRAMA REPRESENTS AT THESPYS ON JANUARY 10! We have registered 63 events with 77 participants and 16 categories including: CONSTRASTING MONOLOGUES, MONOLOGUE, DUET SONG, SOLO SONG, GROUP MUSICAL, GROUP ACTING, LIGHTING, SOUND, COSTUME CONSTRUCTION, CONSTUME DESIGN, PROPS, SCENIC, PLAYWRITING, ANIMATED FILM, MARKETING, STAGE MANAGEMENT. Our program's philosophy is on display with a record number of individual Juanita students entering both TECH and ACTING categories.
Note the Thespy days on the calendar for the next two weeks to help you go into the two week break with confidence that you can finish your techs and bring your performances to their peaks for Jan 10!
OOPS WEEK! Washington Thespians sends me a google form with our sign up to correct any mistakes we might have made. I can ADD events if there are any to add. We will submit the final edits on WEDNESDAY of this week. Please contact Mac directly if you have an event you want to add. I have TWO PERSON scenes if there are any of you that want to add!
SECRET SANTA is Thursday, December 18, from 3:20 - 5pm! If you missed last week's name draw, I have them for you! Remember to ask at Drama on Monday!

Responding to the Monday Letter is optional for Tech Theatre and required for 7th as part of your grade. I want to encourage ALL students to respond to show me that you read the Monday Letter and to strengthen our connections. Your time in class will be enriched through those connections. The Monday Letter responses help you organize for the week and stay on top of deadlines. These are chatty, informal responses! They do not have to be long.

Respond to the Monday Letter by sending an email to: [email protected]:
- 1. Use a unique two word phrase in the subject line that is like a title for the week's content. Be fun! Your subject lines often make me smile:). Do NOT Say Monday Letter.
- 2. Say hi, reflect on what we have been doing.
- 3. Share what you know and understand is coming up for the week.
- 4. Ask questions and/or share something you did over the weekend, or something about yourself you want me to know. This could be a hobby, an activity with friends or family, a book you are reading.
